2003 Silver ADDY Award Winner

Leave-behind presentation piece made for a pitch to Tulane University. The concept was a no-brainer to me.
They are presenting to a university! A graduation cap and a diploma make perfect sense here.
The challenge was in trying to figure out how to make the cap present as a book.

Accolade emailed to me Friday, December 12, 2003
"Bravo! All I can say is this is Tulane proposal is probably the best looking one we've ever submitted. And this list is in the dozens! Gee--I feel like I just graduated."

2002 LA Press 3rd Place Ad Design Award Winner

I had already left Gambit when this ad was selected for award consideration and they applied another name for the credit of the design.
My ad rep was given an account that needed some real tender, loving care. Amanda Humphreys came up with this great idea to promote their leather cleaning service and to use a cow taking a bath. I suggested a bubble bath. Unfortunately with a heavy work load working for a weekly magazine, I was unable to do the actual illustration, but I did digitally fix a few things here and there as well as add color to it.

2001 Alpha Award Nominee

This was nominated for the 2001 Alpha Awards.
When I looked at the pictures and read the headline, the imagery just popped into my head.
I got really excited about the whole project. Placement and organization of pages just flowed out of me.

The imposition, or page plan, dictated that the last page was spot red with the preceding 2 pages black and white.
We also experimented with an acknowledgments page rather than siting every credit on the actual image.
It acted like closing credits in a film and, I think, completed the idea nicely.

1999 LA Press 1st Place Ad Campaign Award

I worked in conjuction with Ben Delery in creating this campaign submitted for award consideration. This is the ad I created, one of the four ads in the campaign.
There was lots of Photoshop work done to merge two seperate images seamlessly together.

1999 LA Press 2nd Place Ad Design Award

This is kind of a funny story. I was given photos taken by my ad rep to advertise these jeans. All of the images were dark and out of focus and basically unusable. She had taken the picture of the tag only so I could possibly get the MAVI logo from it. The composition was great, the color was bad and very out of focus. My solution was to unsharp mask the image to clear it up a little then create a duotone to fix the color. I was very excited with the outcome of the ad. Strangely enough, I don't think the client was too pleased with it, but deadlines dicated there was no time to retake the pictures and design another ad.

The client signed off on it anyway and the rest is history.

Design Team for Best of New Orleans and Design Team for MTV2 New Orleans Convention

Gambit Weekly decided to completely revisit their visitor's guide magazine and I was asked to join in this adventure. Along with the Art Director, the Assistant Art Director and one other production artist, we brainstormed and created this magazine from cover to cover.

This basic design was then transformed to create the MTV2 Convention Program.

1998 LA Press 1st Place Ad Design Award

Ever think back on the beginning of your career and want to kick yourself for something?
This is one of those. I had just started my first graphic design job, not even finished with
school yet and still struggling with all those new darned applications. I never dreamed
of leaving my "dream job" and never thought I would be using the internet to post my portfolio.
There is no way of recovering even a copy of this ad because it was not archived by the publication
and still layed out via - get this - PASTE-UP!

C'est la vie, right?
